It’s sometimes hard to find time to get enough exercise each week. Of course, I bike about 20 minutes back and forth to school each day. I also try to run between 5 and 10 km a couple times a week, go to yoga once a week, and go to boot camp once a week. But depending on the weather, weekend plans, kids’ schedules, my husband’s work … I don’t always move as much as I’d like to. I definitely feel better if I exercise and I sleep better. Plus I am middle aged and I want to have a healthy heart and healthy bones and lots of energy in the coming decades.
I can imagine as study abroad students you may also find it difficult to find a rhythm or find a class or gym that you like. Here are some ideas of if you are also looking for options. It’s always easier with a friend!
free apps: I use the free Nike running app to track my runs and distance and speed on my smart phone. In Deventer if you run from bridge to bridge it’s about 4km to make that circle so if you add in some time to run there or run past the windmill you have a 5km run or walk.

My friend Kathryn likes an app called Fit On that also has a free version.
There are lots of YouTube videos and channels …I like one called Yoga by Adrian or yoga for runners.
For classes you could check out expat friendly options . There is a salsa dance school called Salsa Viva. Zumba classes near Keizerslanden at Viva Zumba. You can just buy a “block of classes” on a card. The swimming pool at Borgelebad has lap swimming at night.
I’m asking around for you all for options for football (soccer). And obviously biking is very easy here with all the bike lanes!
If you’re looking for a gym, just ask if they have any student specials and be careful with cancellation fees. Basic Fit is about 20 euros a month.
hopefully you have already found a way to keep your mind-body connection healthy! Helps to meet people, regulate hormones and sleep and digestion! What are your tips?
